BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, as well as education on its distinct properties and benefits, are available to patients seeking a more youthful look that does not require surgery. This popular cosmetic treatment is known for its ability to quickly and effectively rejuvenate a person’s appearance by temporarily smoothing out forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. These dynamic wrinkles, which can be treated with BOTOX® at The Physicians Aesthetics Center, have repetitive muscle movements as their underlying cause and can remain visible even with the skin at rest.
A medication made of a safe, low-dose amount of the purified protein called botulinum toxin, BOTOX® causes temporary paralysis of the contracted muscle. Results usually take five to 14 days to reach full effect, and the effects last an average of three to four months.*
What is Botox?
Botulinum Toxin (Type A) is cosmetic injection that blocks nerve signals, which cause contraction of muscles. Used for various medical reasons like treatment of migraines, reduction of perspiration and spasticity of muscles; the most known use of Botulinum Toxin is cosmetic in the form of BOTOX.
Am I a good candidate for Botox?
One of the most common signs of aging is the appearance of wrinkles on your face. Common treatment areas include brow furrows, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. Any facial movement like frowning, smiling and even chewing can lead to lines that make you appear tired or angry when you are not – we can help you look as great as you feel on the inside!
If you also want to eliminate these lines and wrinkles from your face and have realistic expectations from your treatment, you are an ideal candidate for Botox.
What is a Botox treatment like?
The cause for wrinkling and creases can stem from various factors, and as mentioned, these factors cause the contraction of muscles beneath the skin. Botox can be administered in the office with no anesthesia required. However, if discomfort is a concern, a numbing cream may be utilized prior to the treatment. Using a fine needle, Botox will be injected into the muscles, relaxing them and loosening tension to smooth the skin. The number of injections required will vary based on your aesthetic goals along with The Physicians’ recommendation to obtain those goals. Effects of the injection will take place up to one week post-procedure.
What is the recovery from Botox?
There is no downtime from your Botox treatment. Most patients can return to work immediately after the injections. However, there may be some swelling or redness that resolves quickly and any strenuous activity is to be avoided for the rest of the day. It is important to avoid rubbing or lying on the treated area for a few days.
Rarely if any bruising occurs, and if so, it resolves within a week or two.
What will be my results?
Depending on a few factors like skin condition and age, the effects from your Botox may last from three to six months. A follow-up appointment will be required for additional treatment or touch up since your results are not permanent.
